Strategic Patience of the Resistance Axis is an Illusion… Samir Geagea’s Strategic Patience is a Reality

By: Charles Jabbour – Al Massira

The resistance axis is one of the most adept at using political propaganda, relying on slogans that mobilize its base, send messages to its adversaries, and exaggerate its capabilities. This is evident in its strategy of brinkmanship, which allows it to avoid direct confrontation that would expose the emptiness of its slogans and false claims. The events of “Al-Aqsa Flood” provided a clear example of the deceptive propaganda about supposed overwhelming power, deterrence, and the ability to annihilate enemies—slogans that ultimately proved to be devoid of real substance.

Among the grand, attractive, and resonant terms used by the resistance axis is its constant talk of “strategic patience,” which Iran claims to practice. It boasts that this patience has enabled it to expand its war-driven revolution across four Arab capitals, asserting that its influence will continue to grow thanks to its “great patience.” However, instead of further expansion, Iran suddenly found itself retreating within its own borders, with its revolution even facing threats at home—especially if it insists on exporting its destabilizing ideology in the Middle East. This suggests that the main goal of this propaganda is to create an illusion of power to reassure its base and deter its adversaries from striking.

Events have shown that the broad concept of “strategic patience” is no different from other propaganda slogans of this axis, which have collapsed in reality—starting with “weaker than a spider’s web” to “eliminating Israel from existence”—all of which have proven to be empty rhetoric. Meanwhile, the true practitioner of “strategic patience,” devoid of empty propaganda, is the leader of the Lebanese Forces, Dr. Samir Geagea.

For years, Geagea was criticized for misreading political transformations, for failing to anticipate changes, and for paying the price for his so-called wrong bets. As if believing in a sovereign, independent Lebanon was a mistake. As if it were necessary to surrender to Assad’s rule over Lebanon. As if political success meant merely adapting to the status quo, even if that meant abandoning the Lebanese people’s right to a state, a constitution, stability, and prosperity.

Lebanon, after the Taif Agreement, entered a phase of local, regional, and international power balances that allowed for the end of the war and the establishment of a real state. However, when the agreement’s implementation was delayed, Lebanon found itself in an entirely different geopolitical reality, ultimately being handed over to Hafez al-Assad. Similarly, just as Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait led to the Gulf War that altered regional dynamics beyond Lebanon’s ability to resist, and just as the 9/11 attacks led to changes beyond Bashar al-Assad’s ability to maintain his grip on Lebanon, the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation was also a storm beyond Iran’s ability to maintain its influence in the region, especially in Lebanon.

Despite these storms, Geagea’s “strategic patience” never wavered. He remained steadfast in his principles, refusing to accept the imposed realities of either Assad or Khamenei. His patience was rooted in a historical belief that time moves in one direction, toward freedom and progress, and that peoples cannot be indefinitely subdued—especially those that refuse to surrender and fight for their rightful place in the world.

Geagea, often criticized for his refusal to acknowledge the so-called “political realities,” understood that true leadership is not about submission but about resistance. Just as he refused to accept Palestinian dominance over Lebanon during the war, and later Assad’s dominance during and after the war, he also rejected Hezbollah’s armed control over Lebanon and refused to normalize its influence—despite accusations that he was misreading the new reality of an Iran-backed regional order under American cover. He remained committed to a vision where no state can truly function under the shadow of an armed militia that monopolizes war decisions and undermines national sovereignty.

True “strategic patience” belongs to the one who has upheld his position for five decades against regional forces—from the Palestinian revolution and its foreign backers, to the Assad regime and its regional influence, to Hezbollah and its Iranian support. The course of events has proven Geagea right: he never yielded, never compromised, never wavered. He was even willing to sacrifice his freedom, preferring imprisonment over being a witness to Lebanon’s subjugation.

In the end, why did the “strategic patience” of the Lebanese Forces triumph over that of the resistance axis? The answer is simple: because the patience of the Lebanese Forces aligns with human values, life, the future, and freedom.
