The most significant event took place in Nejmeh Square, where Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s government is set to gain confidence before moving toward the challenging task of rebuilding state institutions and revitalizing them. After years of accumulated corruption and waste at all levels, it has become imperative for this government to take responsibility amid exceptional circumstances both domestically and internationally. Lebanon, which has gone through a severe economic and financial crisis, has also suffered from political and security deterioration, further exacerbating the situation.

In addition to the economic crises that have struck the country, Lebanon has been drawn into a war that resulted in catastrophic consequences for both the Lebanese people and the region as a whole.

Political sources believe that while gaining confidence is inevitable, the real challenge lies in the government’s ability to fulfill the promises it made to the Lebanese people. Through its oath-taking speech, the government has outlined a clear roadmap. Although its timeframe is limited, there are pressing priorities that must be swiftly addressed to improve conditions on the ground. The first of these priorities is implementing the ceasefire agreement, a fundamental step toward achieving internal stability.

Sources told the Lebanese Forces website: “One of the most crucial tasks ahead for the government is also implementing international resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701, which calls for an end to hostilities between Lebanon and Israel and aims to enhance stability along the southern border. This issue has remained a key focus of the international community, and the current government must exert all efforts to fully implement this resolution. Doing so requires strengthening international relations while ensuring improved security conditions in Lebanon and preventing new threats along the borders.”

The sources further emphasized: “More importantly, the government’s ability to combat the deeply entrenched corruption across all state institutions is a critical test. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s government is expected to reform the systems and laws that have enabled corrupt individuals to exploit the state’s structural weaknesses for years. This will not be an easy task, as many political forces have vested interests in maintaining the corrupt systems. However, if the government is serious about implementing reforms, it must establish well-planned priorities and take bold steps to transform Lebanon into a functional and resilient state.”
